I have been having a great deal of trouble with getting support on both my skystreams. a year ago I noticed a whining soud in one of them when the wind was over 20 mph. I called Southwest, but they wouldn't send out a repair person until I sent them a diagnosis from the unit (lesson here - BUY THE HANDHELD IF YOU EVER WANT SUPPORT). I didn't have the handheld, so they griously sent me one to use. It didn't work. So they sent me a replacement circuit board. THat has yet to work, but I can't get Technical Support to call me back and it has been two weeks. Are others out there having similar issues? Sometimes I just get the feeling that Southwest pushes out product before it is ready for market. I also feel like it is poor customer service to not send a technician until they get a dianosis - I know there is a problem because the good generator is outperforming the defective one on a daily basis. Both are on 33' poles and in the same general location. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks. Chad Missouri Reply to this

Hi Chad, I just installed a skystream 3.7 last month and was alarmed probably by the same noise you are. I called the tech dept. and they say that it is made by the inverter and is normal. I bought a year old unit and installed the hatch cover with the 2.0 upgrade. So everything is on our computer and am very happy with the upgrade. I am disappointed in the output of the unit, it has made 30 kilowatts in a month about 5 percent of our usage. Don Reply to this

Don; Site placement is by far the most important concern when placing a turbine. If you have a 45' tower, you should have nothing over 20' tall within 125' of the turbine. If installed on a 60' tower, you should have nothing over 35' tall within 200' of the turbine. You may have a wind obstruction or turbulence issue. We have found that an increase of only 2mph of wind can increase production on a Skystream by 40%. Reply to this

I have 40 acres and installed the turbine on the highest point on the property. There is nothing north, west and east for 700 feet and the house is 200 feet south but we rarely get south winds. I live in the mountains in a meadow. The wind turbine spins alot but not fast enough to make alot of power. I have a 33' tower. I do appreciate the input. Reply to this

I have two Skystreams on 55' towers, and have produced 2535 KWh since March 22nd. Most of that was in March and April, because in teh summer the wind comes to a stop around here. Hurrican season is coming up again, so I am looking forward to Fall wind. As long as you have done your homework n teh wind in your area and have a level pole, you should be satisfied with what you produce. My only beef is with the Electric COOP in my area, they told me before I constructed that they would do net billing, but now they charge me $10 per month to push up excess and only pay me back about 1/3 what they charge me for power... SO my next goal is to get off the grid completely. Solar+batteries should complement this system very well, since here when the wind isn't blowing the sun is out. Reply to this

You should have bought a couple 2.2 KW turbines from Calla Breeze Turbine Company out of CA.They are made for low height settings less than 35 feet.made just for turbulent air around houses and trees. The blades are designed with newer technology unlike the Skystreams,AirX, and other 3 blade turbines made for jet stream air forces. You can set these at 15 feet, and the 2.2 KW will out perform the 3.7 Skystream set at 60 feet at a 20th of the cost.
